a brief history of baltic sea day

Baltic Sea Day was launched in 2019 by John Nurminen Foundation,
a Finnish NGO with an aim save the Baltic Sea and its heritage.

A GROWING WAVE

Baltic Sea Day was launched by the John Nurminen Foundation in 2019.

The Baltic Sea Day activities and celebrations began in Finland and immediately dozens of organisations joined to carry out events across the country. Events have been since organised in other Baltic Sea coastal countries.

Today, Baltic Sea Day events are organised in eight coastal countries.

The purpose of Baltic Sea Day is that anyone, having accepted the day’s values, can organize events inspired by the sea, take action for the sea’s benefit or simply enjoy the waters.

John Nurminen Foundation continues to coordinate the day and organize its own events.
