Save the Bothnian Bay Day 2025

Save the Bothnian Bay Day is part of the annual Baltic Sea Day and part of the Maritime Oulu Action Plan. The day is organised by the Bothnian Arc Association and the City of Oulu in cooperation with organisations and other actors.

The Save the Bothnian Bay Day event will be held in Kuusisaari, Oulu, on Thursday 28 August from 12 noon to 6 pm. Kuusisaari has a program on stage and a wide range of work shops for children, youth, students and all city residents. The activity points include fairy tales about the sea, angling, stand-up paddle boarding, measuring water quality, identifying aquatic animals, a lure casting competition, learning sea marks and making knots.

In terms of early childhood education, the event will be held on the Hupisaari Islands, where the Early Childhood Education Lower Kitchen and the Heikinharju Nature Home will organise their own event for children aged 5–6 from 9 am to 11 am. On the Hupisaari Islands, children wonder and explore the journey of the Hupisaaret streams towards the great Bay of Bothnia. The event explores, obtains information, makes art and realizes the importance of clean waters for underwater life. The event begins with a joint storytelling start, after which the groups tour the activity points where the children can realize, learn and come up with solutions together.
