Crowd Plunge at Hietsu Beach

Join us at Hietsu beach for a crowd plunge to celebrate the Baltic Sea! We will take a plunge at 6 p.m. – everyone is welcome to dip in their own style! You can simply wade in the water or go for a swim. More experienced open-water swimmers can take a longer lap guided by the Swimming Association. For the delight of the little ones, mermaids will also join us in the dip!

Make sure not to go into the water all alone: it is always best to have a swim buddy or someone on the shore keeping you safe.

Expect a laid-back beach atmosphere and playful competitions. Dress in your favorite swim look! The most creative swim outfit will be rewarded: the winner will receive a swimming technique lesson with Jani Sievinen for themselves and a friend. Second and third place in the costume contest will be awarded John Nurminen Foundation’s book.

Share your outfit and plunge on social media! Use #balticseaday and tag us on Instagram: @balticseaday.

Program:

  • 17:00–17:20 Playful beach flag race and water toy relay for the whole family on the beach.
  • 17:20–17:40 Rescue board competition by the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Lifesaving Federation.
  • 17:45 Announcement of the best swim look competition winner.
  • 18:00 Group plunge into the sea (or a bucket dip if swimming in the sea is not possible due to blue-green algae). Mermaids will also join us in the dip!
  • 18:10 The Swimming Association takes eager swimmers on a longer swim lap. The swim is intended for experienced open-water swimmers only.
  • 18:30 Event ends.

The event is part of the Baltic Sea Day’s Pulahdus activity, where people take a dip across the Baltic Sea region at 6 p.m. The idea behind the dip is to enjoy the recreational opportunities our waters provide while also raising awareness of their ecological state. Our goal is healthy waters where you can safely swim all summer long. Discover the everyday actions you can take to support the wellbeing of our waters.

The event is organized by the Swimming Association, the John Nurminen Foundation, and the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Lifesaving Federation. Come ask us questions about the state of the Baltic Sea, various swimming hobbies, and how to avoid dangerous situations on the water.
